Cable & optical‑cable water‑blocking agent, also known as cable water‑blocking powder or dry‑type water‑blocking resin for optical cables, is a high‑molecular organic polymer. It appears as white powder‑granule with fast water‑absorbing speed and excellent salt‑resistance. It swells rapidly and forms high‑strength hydrogel upon water contact. When cable sheath is damaged and water intrudes, it quickly seals internal gaps and prevents longitudinal water migration along cable core. It features good insulating performance under normal working conditions, fine compatibility with cable auxiliary materials and excellent thermal stability. Its gel structure remains stable and non‑disintegrated for long‑term service in complex underground and underwater environments. Subject to raw materials and production processes, industrial cable‑grade water‑blocking agent comes in milky‑white, off‑white and pale‑yellow powder‑granule form.

Main Applications:

1. In wire‑and‑cable industry, it is applied for dry‑type water blocking of communication optical cables and power cables, preventing water intrusion into cable core and reducing risks of signal attenuation and conductor corrosion. It acts as key material for fully‑dry optical cables and directly‑buried cables. It serves as core water‑absorbing functional filler for manufacturing water‑blocking tapes. It is compound‑coated onto yarns for water‑blocking filling of cable gaps. For submarine optical cables and rail‑transit cables, it provides longitudinal water‑blocking protection under high‑salt and high‑humidity conditions. It fills loose tubes of optical cables to seal inner gaps. It is raw material for expandable water‑blocking cable compound. Besides, it is also used to produce water‑blocking non‑woven fabrics, water‑blocking ropes and special water‑absorbing filling materials for cables.

2. Proper dosage of cable & optical‑cable water‑blocking agent added into directly‑buried, underwater and tunnel‑laid cables & optical cables can rapidly form dense gel sealing layer. Meanwhile, it restrains water‑tree generation and mitigates water‑caused damage to insulating layers.

3. It can also be used for water‑blocking treatment of gaps inside cable cores. Once water invades through broken outer sheath, the agent absorbs water and expands rapidly into high‑strength hydrogel to block longitudinal water spread, protect optical fibers and conductors, and extend cable service life.

4. It works as water‑blocking functional filler for cables. It is also raw material for water‑blocking tapes, water‑blocking yarns, water‑blocking cable compounds and filling materials for fully‑dry optical cables and other products.
